RBKC Supply Chain service during Corona virus outbreak

We intend to continue offering the following services to our members during the next few weeks until restrictions are lifted:

  • One to One meetings with local companies using video conferencing facilities such as Skype or Microsoft Teams or voice only services such PowWowNow
  • Brokering opportunities with buyers as and when they arise
  • Assistance with obtaining basic or higher levels of accreditation again using remote conferencing and email.
  • Critical review of any tenders by our tendering specialist prior to submission
  • Information on the unfolding pandemic and support for businesses

As soon as the advice changes on social interaction and travel, we will be running the Meet the Buyer that was originally planned for 19th March. This will enable builders and repair and maintenance trades to meet with large Property Owners and Management companies looking for good local R&M companies as well as architects and builders for major building refurbishment.

We then intend to hold a networking event for architects and interior designers with a number of developers included.

Press release

Opportunities for local businesses in the Supply Chain project

The RBKC Supply Chain project will help local businesses tender for big contracts with developers and property owners, connecting them for opportunities and providing support.

Running for two years, the project is open to businesses across the borough in property and construction related trades, from plumbers and carpenters to architects and interior designers. RBKC Supply Chain is run by the Council in partnership with London procurement experts MTW Consultants.

Success

A successful one-year pilot of the programme saw almost 100 SMEs and 11 developers involved, with 44 local suppliers put forward for 75 opportunities and 11 invitations to tender as a result.

Not only will those taking part in the project get more opportunities for contracts but they also get plenty of support in preparing to tender. This includes a review of the business and its credentials, guidance on how to maximise their potential and networking opportunities.

Cllr Catherine Faulks, Lead Member for Skills & Enterprise at RBKC comments:

“After a lot of positive interest from the pilot of the Supply Chain project, we’re looking forward to involving more businesses over the next two years and seeing a local economy that can truly benefit everyone in the borough.

“We’re lucky to have such a diverse and talented group of SMEs in RBKC. I have witnessed just how valuable the advice, networking and support can be for our smaller businesses; especially in giving them the opportunities to tender for large contracts.”

In it together

A key part of the Council’s Economy Strategy, launched last year, RBKC Supply Chain is designed to help work towards a stronger local economy that works for everyone, at every level.

We are working with the RBKC team for Lancaster West, the estate neighbouring Grenfell Tower, to get opportunities for local companies. The estate is being refurbished at a cost of £60m.
One of our local architects, Mizzi Studios, is in discussion with the team about ideas to enhance the outdoor walkways, transforming them into places the residents will want to use.
